Li-Young Lee was born in 1957 in Jakarta, Indonesia, where his father
spent a year as a political prisoner in President Sukarno's jails.
In the 1960's, his family settled in the United States as political
refugees.
The author of three books of poetry, Book
of My Nights, The City in Which I
Love You, Rose and a memoir
The Winged Seed, Lee has won honors
from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Lannan Foundation
and the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
